He may have and hold and keep her. And he will tell himself that he is her master. But from his first look into those wide, questioning, liquid eyes, he will be just as transformed as she. He will be equally ensnared. And the witch will have her true payment.

Margo Lanagan weaves an extraordinary tale of desire, despair, and transformation. With devastatingly beautiful prose, she reveals characters capable of unspeakable cruelty, but also unspoken love.

Fingerprints of You by Kristen-paige Modonia

A teen embarks on the road trip of a lifetime in this authentic, beautifully written debut novel.
Lemon grew up with Stella, a single mom who wasn’t exactly maternal. Stella always had a drink in her hand and a new boyfriend every few months, and when things got out of hand, she would whisk Lemon off to a new town for a fresh beginning. Now, just as they are moving yet again, Lemon discovers that she is pregnant from a reckless encounter—with a guy Stella had been flirting with.
On the verge of revisiting her mother’s mistakes, Lemon struggles to cope with the idea of herself as a young unmarried mother, as well as the fact that she’s never met her own father. Determined to have at least one big adventure before she has the baby, Lemon sets off on a cross-country road trip, intending not only to meet her father, but to figure out who she wants to be.
Lyrical and moving prose from an original voice whose writing Judy Blume calls “luminous” deftly depicts the nuanced conflicts of early motherhood and the search for identity.

The Dark Game: True Spy Stories from Invisible Ink to CIA Moles by Paul B. Janeczko
From clothesline codes to surveillance satellites and cyber espionage, Paul B. Janeczko uncovers two centuries’ worth of true spy stories in U.S. history.

Ever since George Washington used them to help topple the British, spies and their networks have helped and hurt America at key moments in history. In this fascinating collection, Paul B. Janeczko probes such stories as that of Elizabeth Van Lew, an aristocrat whose hatred of slavery drove her to be one of the most successful spies in the Civil War; the "Choctaw code talkers," Native Americans who were instrumental in sending secret messages during World War I; the staggering engineering behind a Cold War tunnel into East Berlin to tap Soviet phones (only to be compromised by a Soviet mole); and many more famous and less-known examples. Colorful personalities, daring missions, the feats of the loyal, and the damage of traitors are interspersed with a look at the technological advances that continue to change the rules of gathering intelligence.

 Drama by Raiana Telgemeier

Instead she's the set designer for the stage crew, and this year she's determined to create a set worthy of Broadway on a middle-school budget. But how can she, when she doesn't know much about carpentry, ticket sales are down, and the crew members are having trouble working together? Not to mention the onstage AND offstage drama that comes once the actors are chosen, and when two cute brothers enter the picture, things get even crazier! Following the success of Smile, Raina Telgemeier brings us another graphic novel featuring a diverse set of characters that humorously explores friendship, crushes, and all-around drama!

 Flock by Wendy Delsol
The climactic conclusion of a supernatural romantic trilogy starring a savvy, sharp-tongued heroine who taps into ancient Norse secrets.

After surviving her (shall we say) intense adventure in Iceland, Katla is psyched to be back for a blissfully uneventful senior year of homecoming and fashion explorations. But her hopes of dodging unfinished business are dashed by the arrival of two Icelandic exchange students: Marik, an oddly alluring merman-in-disguise, and Jinky, a tough gypsy girl. It seems Katla not only enraged the Snow Queen by rescuing her boyfriend, Jack, she also was tricked into promising her frail baby sister to the water queen — and Marik has come to collect. What’s worse, Katla doesn’t dare confide in anyone lest she endanger them, so even her soul mate, Jack, is growing suspicious. And now Katla’s stork dreams, her guide for matching babies with mothers, have become strange and menacing as well. Hold on for a thrilling finale as the heroine ofStorkandFrostcalls on her wits (and her wit) to protect those she loves and face a final mythic disaster.

Review of Survive by Alex Morel

Survive by Alex Morel

Jane is on leave for Christmas from Life House, the mental hospital, where she has spent the last year.  And although she is excited, it is not because she is going home.  In fact, Christmas only serves to remind her of her father’s suicide and her family history of suicide.  She is excited about the plane ride and the “plan”- she intends to kill herself in the plane’s bathroom by taking a lethal concoction of pills.  She may get her wish to die, but it is certainly not going to be planned. The plane hits a storm and crashes in the mountains during a blizzard; Jane and Paul, a teen adventurist, are the only survivors.  A nail-biting wilderness survival story, along the lines of Hatchet, that readers won’t want to put down.

Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane

I want to share a book that I think is very much worth reading at any age even though it was published as a children's book. The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo.

Edward Tulane, a china rabbit, is owned by a young girl named Abilene. Abilene adores Edward, but her adoration is unfortunately not returned by Edward. On the family vacation, Edward is thrown overboard into the sea. Thus begins his miraculous journey from home to home and owner to owner.  Will he eventually learn to love?

Adventure, mystery, romance, and more play out in this achingly beautiful book. And although the story is enough on its own, there are magnificent drawings throughout that also bring the story to life.

Check it out, you won't be disappointed!

    Boot Camp by Todd Strasser

Garrett is kidnapped from his home during the night and brought to Lake Harmony, an alternative “school”, which promises parents their children will return obedient, respectful, and polite using any means necessary.  The only problem is Garrett doesn’t really belong there.  Yes, maybe he has smoked once in a while, skipped some days of school, and is seeing a woman seven years older who used to be his teacher, but does this mean he is in danger of ruining his life?  Does this merit being beaten within an inch of his life over and over again?
